How I Started my Incredible Tech Journey as a Young Black Girl

“It’s not that we use technology, we live technology.” – Godfrey Reggio

Technology is one of the best things that happened to me.💯

I defended my thesis on the topic of Forensic Engineering in Concrete Structures and graduated with a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from the National Advanced School of Public Works, Yaounde back in 2019.

Being a Civil Engineer was not part of my plan or my dream but it was the best opportunity that presented itself to me at the time. I was accepted among thousands of students that applied to study in a specialized Government university that was in partnership with Padova University in Italy. This meant that we would have 2 certificates, including an internationally recognized certification.

The best part of it was the job security at the end of these studies. I was at least 85% sure of getting a job, the dream of every young graduate.🎓👩‍🎓

A few weeks after I received my certificates in December 2019, I got a job offer and was programmed to start work in January 2020. Barely a couple of weeks into my new position, we all faced the global pandemic of COVID19 and we were asked to go home due to the lockdown.

Every single event in life happens in an opportunity to choose love over fear, learning over defeat, and new horizons over failure.✨💫

I love reading books. It's one of the ways we can learn from the mistakes and successes of others. We also get the opportunity to live multiple lives in books. That’s how I spent most of my time during the lockdown. I read one of Dan Lok's books and these are some of the key points that changed my entire mindset:

📌 Do what you love because if you don’t that means you’re spending time doing things you don’t want to do which goes against the entire purpose of starting your own business.

📌 Make sure there’s a long-term demand for what you’re offering. It helps if people are happy enough with what you’re offering to keep coming back.

📌 Portable so that you can work from anywhere and never have to be tied to a physical location you don’t like. It also eliminates time-wasting commutes. Some people work in their homes, on a beach, or even in a boat in the middle of a lake.

📌 It has a high-profit margin which means there’s less work required compared to the amount of money you earn.

I did some research on high-income skills and copyrighting and coding caught my interest. But I was more of a problem-solving person and a critical thinker, so I went in for coding.👩🏻‍💻

I applied and got accepted into an online Bootcamp, Microverse, where I had the opportunity to learn with a diverse, driven community, and connect to life-changing opportunities.☺️😊

Thanks for reading✌🏽 and remember, There is no security on this earth; there is only opportunity, Douglas MacArthur.
